BOXING RING FOR TAWAU

The Youth and Sports Ministry will provide a boxing ring for Tawau next year.
Its Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin announced this yesterday when replying to a question from Pang Nyuk Ming (BN-Merotai) at the State AssembIy.
According to Pang, the boxing ring project is in recognition of the commitment of the district in producing many good boxers.
Among outstanding boxers from Tawau is Reitz Zakaria who represented Malaysia at the Seoul Cup in South Korea in 1994, Mayor’s Cup in the Philippines in 1995 and the SEA Games in Thailand in 1995.
Others include Reno J. Talad and Lokman Ridwan who represented the country in the Agong’s Cup in 1996 and Jason J. Talad in the same tournament in 1998.
Tawau is also arguably the main producer of Peter Pang boxers for Sabah, with two of its athletes representing the State at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Terengganu this year.
Pang also said his Ministry will cooperate with all 38 sports associations in the State to produce good athletes.
He said the Sabah Sports Council (SSC) too will help out in forming the Satellite Sports Science and Sports Medics Centre (Pusat Satelit Sains Sukan dan perubatan Sukan) in the State, which is expected to start operation next year.
The SSC is also responsible in identifying potential athletes, coaches, sports science courses and tournaments at state, national and international levels.
Pang asked the Sabah Sports Board (SSB) to do a research on the development of sports facilities at district levels, including for new sport events.
He said the SSB will be responsible for readying facilities at sports complexes including courts.
“We have eight sport complexes in the State,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pang announced that his Ministry will launch a Youth Complaints Website next month.
Through the website, themed ‘Suara Anda, Inspirasi Kami’ (Your Voices, Our Inspirations), the people especially youths will be able to provide their constructive range of views, proposals and ideas aboit youth development in the State.
Pang said all the development programmes previously planned will continue but the Ministry will take an open approach starting next year where the youth associations will be given full faith to implement their own programmes.
Under the RM2,778.81 million State Budget 2009, the Ministry received RM36. 18 million for Supply Expenditure and RM33. 17 million for Development Expenditure.
