POLICE WILL FIND SUITABLE LOCATION TO DETONATE BOMB

KENINGAU:

Police will find a suitable location to detonate a World War Two bomb found by a construction worker at Luagan here on Monday afternoon.

District Police Chief DSP Zahari Mohammad said on Thursday that the bomb which is more than one meter long and weighing about 1,000 pounds, could cause devastating effects to the surrounding areas.

Therefore a place far away from residential areas has to be identified before it could be detonated, he said, adding the bomb is still under 24-hour Police supervision.

There are several villages and Government buildings situated below 500 meters from the location of the bomb. They are Kampung Luagan Baru, Taman Rakyat, Toboh Baru, Hospital Keningau, SMK Keningau II, SK Luagan, Petronas Gas Supply Centre at Kampung Luagan Baru, Taman Jutaya II, Kampung Tudan Baru and Kampung Bayangan.

Excavator operator Adnan Basiran found the bomb when doing earth work at the construction site around 5.45pm on Monday.
