Fire scare at supermarket in Tawau


TAWAU:

An electrical socket at the Millimewa Superstore in Fajar here exploded on Tuesday night, causing black smoke to be emitted but no injury was reported.

District Fire and Rescue Department Chief Johnny Oyong @ Azi Zakaria said 12 firefighters in two fire engines rushed to the scene within minutes after a distress call was received from 11:19pm.

The fire fighters, led by Johnny himself, quickly broke open the store’s main door and found one of the sockets had burned out. The ceiling of the store had turned black from the smoke.

Johnny said the security guard made the distress call after he saw smoke coming out of the store, adding the cause of the estimated loss Was still under investigation.
