KUANTAN:

Pahang police managed to save 1,272 animals from ending up as exotic dishes at restaurants, by seizing 1,272 exotic wildlife, after raiding a portable container cabin in a jungle at Bukit Astana near Indera Mahkota here on Monday night. Eastern Region Marine Police Intelligence and Operations Head DSP Mohd Hassan Hashim said acting on a tip-off from the public, a unit of the Marine Police Intelligence raided the Cabin at 8. 3Opm and found iguanas, monitor lizards and pythons stored in 72 plastic and 20 wooden boxes. “Upon inspection we found 1,244 monitor lizards, 17 iguanas and 11 pythons. The animals were later handed over to the State Department of Wildlife Protection and National Parks for action to be taken on the offenders under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972,” Mohd Hassan told reporters here yesterday. However, no arrests were made as there was nobody inside the cabin during the raid.
