MONDAY-20TH OCTOBER 2008-MV DOULOS

GBA Ships e.v.

Doulos was purchased in 1977 by GBA Ships e.V. (previously known as Good Books for All), a private, non-profit, charitable organisation registered in Germany.

Over 20 million visitors have been welcomed on board for tours, programmes and visits to the floating book fair. With stops in over 500 ports of call, this unique ship has visited more than 100 countries in including Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and many island nations.

Doulos is recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest active ocean-going passenger ship.
The MV Doulos is to make its fourth trip to Kuching on Dec 11 and it is likely to be the final voyage to the city for the ship that dates back to 1914.
Expected to dock at Sim Kheng Hong Port in Pending, the ship operated by a German non-profit charity organisation-Gute Bucher fur Alle e.V(GBA)- will bring to the people 6,000 titles among the half a million books it has onboard.
Project coordinator Ginny Drake said the MV Doulos was expected to be open to the public from Dec 11 to Dec 31 and it served as a fun family outing destination for Kuchingnites especially families, given it coincided with the school holidays.
