TUESDAY-14 OCTOBER 2008- SPECIAL SHOW TO MARK NATIONAL LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE MONTH LAUNCHING

Special show to mark National Language and Literature Month launching


KOTA KINABALU:

The public is welcome to support the launching ceremony of the National Language and Literature Month 2008 (BBSN) at Padang Merdeka here at 7. 30pm next Friday (Oct 24). Head of State Tun Ahmadshah Abdullah is the guest of honour for the evening, and Chief-Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and Education Minister Datuk Hishammuddin Tun Hussein are expected to attend the event. The event is jointly organised by the State Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka and several State and Federal Government departments. A special performance, with the theme ‘Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa’, will be performed by famous entertainers such as Ramli Sarip, Abu Bakar Ellah, Nurul Fadzillah Nordin, Felix Agus and State Cultural Board artistes. Prior to the official launching ceremony, cultural performances will be held from 3pm to 5.30pm. Throughout the BBSN, a special expo will be held for three days beginning Oct 24 at Centre Point Sabah, and the BBSN Run is scheduled this Sunday (Oct 19). A roadshow, with the ‘Leaders with the People’ concept, will be organised at the Turi Mustapha Hall in Lahad Datu this Saturday (Oct 18). The event will be divided into three segments, namely the launching ceremony and Bicarawara and the Pentas Jawi contest at 2pm, both to be held at the Tun Mustapha hall; and the Poet Aspiration Night beginning at 7.30pm at the Sri Perdana Hall in Lahad Datu. Bicarawara is a programme where three distinguished people will be invited to talk on the topic ‘Memartabatkan Bahasa Kebangsaan: Tidak Kita Siapa Lagi?’ (Giving Prestige to the National Language: Who Else If Not Us?). The three invited guests are lecturers from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Dr Saidatul Nornis Mahali and Dr Yamin Ooi, and Kent Teachers Training Institute Lecturer D Vasuthevan. Local artistes Abu Bakar Ellah and Felix Agus are also expected to entertain guests that evening. The Pentas Jawi contest will be participated by secondary school students from all over Lahad Datu. Tungku Assemblyman Mohd Suhaili Said will be the guest of honour.
