TUESDAY-28 OCTOBER 2008- CALL TO UPGRADE SANDAKAN HOSPITAL FACILITES

Call to upgrade Sandakan Hopital facilities

SANDAKAN:

The State Government has been urged to upgrade the facilities of the Duchess of Kent Hospital here. Making the call, Board of Visitors Chairman John Khoo said there needs to be a political will among the State’s political leaders to upgrade the hospital’s facilities. “The hospital has a new and magnificent white building, butahospital is not complete without.being equipped with all the necessary medical equipment and enough doctors, nurses and specialists to serve the increasing population of Sandakan folk. “Many of our kampung folks are poor and need medical attention,” he said at the Board’s charity dinner with Malaysian Association of Medical Social Officers at a hotel here on Sunday. Proceeds from the event amounted to some RM134,000. In her welcoming speech, Organising Chairman Sarinah Ahmad said the Association manages the Malaysian Medical Welfare Fund which supports needy patients in need of further medical attention regardless of race or creed, and is funded by donations from the public, corporate bodies and charitable organisations. Earlier in her speech, Hospital Director Dr Zorina Bte Khalid extended her appreciation to the Association and Board. Her speech was competently translated by her 14- year-old daughter Rahan Bte Mohd Johari into Mandarin.
