Formation of Malaysia has brought peace, development to Sabah :Musa

The formation of Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963 and the country’s independence have brought peace and development to the State, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman. “The Government brought development to the State in various sectors, including education, transportation, communication, socio-economic and many more,” he said during the launch of the Malaysia Day exhibition in conjunction with the 51st National Day at Palm Square, Centre Point here yesterday. His speech was delivered by Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Hj Tawfiq Datuk Hj Abu Bakar Titingan. According to Musa, the Government is committed to implementing various policies and pragmatic development programmes with the public’s support. “Large allocations including from the Federal Government to encourage more development, especially in rural areas are proof that the Government cares about the people. “Therefore the people should give continuous support to the Government’s effort so that the peace and development can be improved and protected,” he said. Musa added that the history behind the process to achieve independence and the country’s development should be made known to the public, especially the younger generation through co-curricular activities, community and youth programmes, the media s well as exhibitions. “It should be emphasised so that the younger generation will be aware of the sacrifices made by the older generation to gain independence from the colonial power,” he said. He said that it is the responsibility of the current generation to protect the independence and to strengthen the unity spirit and peace we now enjoy. “We should not let ourselves be influenced by irresponsible people who try to disturb the peace and harmony of the people as well as the unity of various races and the country’s stability,” he said. Meanwhile, Broadcasting Director Datuk Hj Jumat Enson said that the exhibition which is organised by the Information Ministry, hopes to provide more information and knowledge to the public, especially the younger generation on the, country’s history. The seven-day exhibition on the history of Malaysia and the leaders is open to the public. Live RTM broadcasts and the Selamat Pagi Malaysia television show are also featured during the exhibition. Also present was Sabah Information Director Hj Azizan Hj Din.
