Govt still studying minimum wage

The Government is still studying a proposal to set the minimum monthly wage at RM720 and will make a decision in due course, said Gum Gum Assemblyman Datuk Hj Zakaria Mohd Edris. He was responding to a reporter’s question after launching a Job Fair organised by the Manpower Department here yesterday. Some 24 private companies and 40 Government agencies took part in the event that brought job seekers and employers under one roof. They included Asiatic Development Berhad, Tanah Emas Corporation Berhad, IJM Plantation Berhad,, TOT Corporation Berhad, PBB Oil Palms Berhad, NPC Resources Berhad, Cymao Plywod Sdn Bhd, Hap Seng Plantation, Royal Malaysian Navy and Human Resources Development Department. In his opening speech, Zakaria said the Government is doing its best to provide job opportunities for youths and urged them nOt to be too choosy. Meanwhile, Sabah Manpower Department Director Hjh SitiAishan Hj Mohd Asri said her Department will hold a similar job fair in Tawau before the end of the month.
