Kuala Lumpur hoteliers enjoy highest occupancy from foreign tourists

A national hotel occupancy rate study has /shown that 10.31 million foreign tourists and 17.96 million local travellers filled up hotel rooms in 1the country in the first half of this year. Tourism Minister Datuk Azalina Othman Said said Kuala Lumpur hoteliers enjoyed the highest occupancy from foreign tourists, registering 2.74 million guests ,followed by Pahang (2.25 million), Perak (1.21 million), Penang (938,273) and Johor (814,305). Pahang became a first choice destination to domestic tourists with hoteliers receiving 4.18 million guests followed by Kuala Lumpur (2.34 million), Perak (2.09 million), Johor (1.72 million) and Sarawak (1.42 million), she said when responding to a question from Datuk Ismail Abdul Muttalib (BN-Maran) at the Dewan Rakyat, yesterday. She said 60 per cent of the tourists flocked to ecotourism sites like Genting Highlands in Pahang. To a question from Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PAS-Rantau Panjang), she said her Ministry was not involved in a study on the ill- effects of foreign culture in the tourism industry. “With the influx of tourists from West Asia, some local hoteliers are known to have not objected to Arab tourists in robes jumping into the pools,” she said. - Bernama
