New Bundusan Road to have five roundabouts

PENAMPANG:

Once completed, the new Jalan Bundusan would have five roundabouts including two new ones, Public Works Department (PWD) engineer in-charge of the road upgrading and widening project, Md Shamsul Nizam Hj Abd Wahid said. The new roundabouts would be located in front of Beverly Hills and the Road Transport Department (RTD) headquarters, he said, adding there would be no traffic lights or U- turns along the 3.2-kilometre stretch of road from SGCC to the KDCA “Our research showed that roundabouts are more appropriate for the area than traffic lights,” Md Shamsul said. The project also saw the construction of two new bridges, one in Jalan Kolam, which is completed and another one in front of the CKS Supermarket. According to Md Shamsul, the PWD has also taken steps to address problems that have and could occur along Jalan Bundusan such as flooding. “We have identified two areas that could face flooding problem, in front of Taman Kemayan and Beverly Hills. The remedial measure taken are to put in additional culverts in these two areas,” he said. In front of Taman Kemayan, the culverts will be replaced with 1.8- metre twin ones while another 900mm culvert will be placed at the problematic area in front of Beverly Hills. He also assured road users that the PWD has taken stepsto ensure their safety at night, especially along the: stretch near CKS Supermarket where several mishaps and near mishaps had occurred because road users were unable to see the road and the diversions clearly. “Arrow signs and blinkers have been put up and at the moment, the contractor has erected streetlights at about 20 main junctions along the road,” Md Shamsul added.
